After delivering a masterful "Maddux," Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski received an extra day off and will skip the upcoming series against the Cleveland Guardians at American Family Field.
The NL Central-leading Brewers (43-26) announced the NL leader in earned-run average (1.34) will not start Thursday against Tanner Bibee (2-7). Instead, Shane Drohan (3-2) will take Misiorowski's usual spot in the rotation.
Off Monday, the Brewers are planning to start Robert Grasser on Tuesday and Brandon Sproat on Wednesday.
Misiorowski, who has allowed one earned run since April 25, likely will be pushed back to Friday's series opener against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park.
"I think it actually could be a good thing," Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold said, as reported by MLB.com.
One of only four pitchers to yield one or fewer earned runs over eight straight starts, Misiorowski continues stacking MLB records.
Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski gets extra day of R&R
Misiorowski earned his first complete-game shutout last Friday, blanking the visiting Philadelphia Phillies, 6-0. Some MLB insiders suggested it was one of the most complete pitching performances — ever.
Improving to 8-2, Misiorowski faced a minimum of 27 batters and struck out 15 batters, allowing one hit and no bases on balls. Not only did he register the most strikeouts in a "Maddux," he capped the shutout on 95 pitches.
Pitching past the seventh inning for the first time in 29 big-league starts, the 24-year-old right-hander also established a record for the fastest recorded fastball, releasing a four-seamer at 104.5 mph.
Misiorowski paces all MLB starters with a 116 proStuff+.
Will he soon hit 106 mph?
