Masyn Winn admits 'embarrassing' facet of his game for Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals have enjoyed a surprisingly strong season.

They currently possess the second of three Wild Card spots in the National League despite many predicting them to suffer a rebuilding year this past offseason.

Shortstop Masyn Winn's defense helps the Cardinals in many ways on the field, but he is clearly disappointed with a certain aspect of his hitting performance over the first two months of the year.

"Last Friday, St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn expressed disappointment with his home-run total, saying, 'One homer at this point is pretty embarrassing.' Winn hit No. 2 on Monday, but his overall numbers are not where he or the Cardinals envisioned," The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal wrote Thursday.

The right-handed hitter connected for 15 homers during his rookie season in 2023, but he's hit just 11 in his last 183 games played, spanning a time frame from the start of 2025 to current day.

"Cardinals people believe Winn is at his best when he’s a tough out," Rosenthal added. "He hasn’t been that this season. But it’s easy to forget, he’s still only 24."

Winn, who won a Gold Glove in 2025, became the youngest shortstop in franchise history to take home the hardware.

If he can continue to provide the Cardinals with a slick glove and strong arm in the middle infield spot, they may overlook shortcomings in the power department.
