It's way too easy to compare a deliberately moving Dallas Mavericks big point guard to Luka Doncic.
But if you squint a lot, and maybe get a bit too excited, Sergio De Larrea has just a little bit of a resemblance.
Regardless of who you compare him to, De Larrea looks like a strong early find for the Mavs.
They got him with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, sort of. That selection actually belonged to the New York Knicks, and during the draft, De Larrea was announced as the Knicks' choice.
News of the trade emerged soon after, and in reality, the deal was probably already done before De Larrea was picked.
But for a moment, Knicks fans were doing what they could to figure out who he was, and then he instead ended up with Dallas.

At NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, De Larrea is hooping.
That includes a game with 16 points and 12 assists on Monday night, and the highlights are quite impressive:

At least at the Summer League level of competition, De Larrea is moving at the pace he wants, getting to his spots and also setting up his teammates in a variety of ways.
In the long run, the Mavs would love a point guard who makes life easier for Cooper Flagg. There's no guarantee that De Larrea is that guy, but he's got a chance.
