Millie Bobby Brown Is Being Praised For The Thoughtful Adjustment She Made Mid-Conversation While Speaking To A Group Of Kids, And It’s So Sweet

British star Millie Bobby Brown was just 11 years old when she got her big break in the Netflix series Stranger Things, which aired for five seasons across nine years and was shot in Atlanta, Georgia.

As a result, Millie spent the vast majority of her formative years in the United States, surrounded by her American co-stars. In 2021, she started dating Florida-born Jake Bongiovi, whom she married in 2024, and the two now reside in a farmhouse in Georgia with their adopted daughter.

So, it’s perhaps unsurprising that Millie’s English accent has become a little muddled over the years, with the now-22-year-old star often switching between her native English accent and an American twang when she speaks.

Just last year, Millie addressed the scrutiny over how she speaks during an appearance on the SmartLess podcast, where she said of her accent: “That was such a huge thing for a minute. I actually call it the 'accent gate' because it's so frustrating, because that was everywhere. Like, for a second, everyone was talking about my accent, and they had a real problem about it. And I was like: 'Guys, I'm married to an American.’”

"When I'm around his family, I immediately go into, like, an American accent,” Millie went on. “But then I was just in England, and then the second I hear my mom and dad's accent, I just go right back."

She also pointed out that adapting her accent is a pretty key part of her job as an actor.

Fast-forward to 2026, and Millie is now being praised for the way that she switched up her speaking voice when talking to a group of American schoolchildren, with the star picking up on the fact that the youngsters were struggling to understand what she was saying.

During a recent appearance on Celebrity Substitute, Millie was tasked with turning the children into “movie stars,” and she began by going over the basics of on-set terminology.

After asking whether anyone knew what “action” meant, Millie called on a little girl named Harley, who gave the correct response. Millie then asked the group: “What does ‘your mark’ mean?” and when she was met with a confused “what?,” Millie switched into a more American accent and repeated “your mark.”

Pointing out a mark on the floor, she went on: “This is called your mark. But in my accent, I’m saying mark, but actually, in your accent, it’ll be mark.”

And this clearly triggered something in Millie’s mind, as she immediately set the record straight with the little girl she had spoken to earlier. She said: “Harley, I didn’t say your name wrong earlier — it’s my accent… But I can say Harley if it makes you more comfortable.”

This thoughtful gesture has been widely praised online after a clip of the moment was shared to TikTok. Commenting on the video, one person wrote: “She’s so sweet switching her accent for them.”

“I love how she changed accent,” somebody else wrote, while another echoed: “I like how she changed her accent to help them understand she’s such a good mom for sure.” One more added: “This is so sweet. Kids are just the best and sweetest. Millie is so kind.”

Others were impressed by Harley’s moment in the spotlight later in the clip, with the little girl saying of Millie in a confessional: “She’s so British I can smell her accent,” before imitating the star’s English accent. One of the comments reads: “Well damn! Harley is going places - girl’s smart and funny.”

“Harley needs her own show,” another agreed, while somebody else wrote: “Harley needs to be in the film industry 😎”
