NFL coordinator blasts Jets with brutal Quinnen Williams comment

1 hour ago 3

The New York Jets traded Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys during the 2025 NFL season, landing a first-round pick and more in return for the veteran defensive tackle.

While that trade will help the Jets in the long-run, there is still a lot of belief in Williams turning his career around after a bit of a rough season with the Jets.

One NFL coordinator, in response to ranking Williams highly in Jeremy Fowler of ESPN's defensive tackle poll, blasted the Jets for their ability to "knock you down" and hold a player back from being as good as they really are.

Jets blasted by NFL coordinator amid Quinnen Williams praise

"The Jets will knock you down," an NFL coordinator said. "The same thing happened to Leonard Williams - but I expect Quinnen to be better in Dallas, be rejuvenated a bit."

What this NFL coordinator likely is referring to is that players will play worse with the Jets, and then find more success away from the franchise, as the Jets knock a player down a peg or two from their normal standard of production.

Williams was a four-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro during his years with the Jets. But after his 12-sack 2022 season, he took a step back in the following seasons.

He posted 5.5 sacks in 2023 and then 6.5 in 2024. This past season, Williams had just one sack with the Jets through eight games before he was traded to the Cowboys, where in seven games he had 1.5 sacks.

While he wasn't a bad player with the Jets at all, this NFL coordinator still blasted the Jets for knocking Williams down.

Leonard Williams had a similar career arc, as he was good with the Jets, but didn't hit his peak until after he departed the team.

This NFL coordinator believes Quinnen Williams will follow that trend and thrive with the Cowboys now that he's left the Jets.

But, for the Jets to be put on blast like this, being called out for knocking players down, is a brutal comment to make. Public perception may agree, as the Jets have really struggled in recent years.
