After literally years of leaks, Nintendo has decided it is finally time to give a look at what it has forever called “the successor to the Nintendo Switch.” And it is in fact called plainly, the Nintendo Switch 2.

In a video and post this morning, Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 hardware, which of course does in fact look exactly like all the leaks, though it will save showing how a significant amount of games run on the console at a later date.

As you can see above, and in the video below, the Nintendo Switch 2 unsurprisingly looks close to identical to the current Nintendo Switch. It’s a little bigger, the screen is decently larger (possibly around 25%), but the core of the system remains the same. It’s a departure for Nintendo which always significantly changes its form factors between generations, but when your last console sells 146 million units, you don’t want to change too much. And that also includes the name. This is not the Super Nintendo Switch Plus, it’s simply the Switch 2, very clearly indicating it’s a direct successor.

Nintendo barely posted anything alongside this video and will not be talking about the system any more until April 2, it seems. That’s when a Nintendo Switch 2-focused direct will air, and after that, it will be followed up by a number of hands-on events with the console at various cities. That schedule is as follows:

North America:

  • New York, April 4-6, 2025
  • Los Angeles, April 11-13, 2025
  • Dallas, April 25-27, 2025
  • Toronto, April 25-27, 2025

Europe:

  • Paris, April 4-6, 2025
  • London, April 11-13, 2025
  • Milan, April 25-27, 2025
  • Berlin, April 25-27, 2025
  • Madrid, May 9-11, 2025
  • Amsterdam, May 9-11, 2025

Oceania:

  • Melbourne, May 10-11, 2025

Asia:

  • Tokyo (Makuhari), April 26-27, 2025
  • Seoul, May 31-June 1, 2025

When I say there’s limited information that’s been released about the Switch 2 past how it looks, I really mean that. The only thing they’re saying about the console is once again reiterating it will be backward compatible with Switch games. There’s nothing about its internals nor what power it may be putting out. Considering so many past leaks were accurate, others that put it at PS4 Pro power when docked and PS4 base power when in handheld mode may also be true.

So yes, the Switch 2 exists, it’s called the Switch 2 and it looks like a bigger Switch. That’s all we’ve got until April, but I’m sure at a certain point Nintendo was getting tired of the leaks. I look forward to seeing it in action, even if it’s three months away.
