The Denver Nuggets have had a rather quiet offseason compared to what many fans have been hoping for, a somewhat concerning sign when we consider that they arguably have the best player in basketball, Nikola Jokic.
Jokic, at worst a top-two player in the game, really hasn't had an offseason to remember for his team. In fact, I think one could even go as far as to say that the Nuggets have been one of the losers of this offseason.
There are a few players who could help them change that, though I question how well they'd really fit given their age and who they are as players now. That includes the likes of LeBron James and Klay Thompson.
The Thompson aspect is interesting, however, because of what he does behind the arc. That's why one writer recently floated the idea of moving on from Peyton Watson to land him and other assets from the Dallas Mavericks.
“The Denver Nuggets may be one of the only teams actually willing to take on the entirety of Thompson’s contract. The reason is the availability of free agent Peyton Watson via sign-and-trade. Obviously, the Nuggets wouldn’t do this one-for-one, but the other players and draft capital involved are to be discussed later. Right now, let’s just talk about the incredible potential Thompson has with Nikola Jokic as his playmaker. That would be a lethal duo, even with Thompson getting up there in age,” Charles North wrote.
Obviously, moving on from Thompson for Watson straight up would make absolutely no sense for the Nuggets. There would have to be other assets moved in this deal, and I'm not sure either side would be willing to do so.
