ForbesToday’s NYT Connections Hints And Answers For Friday, June 19By Kris Holt
Well, this is the New York Times, so you may expect them to celebrate the Knicks’ championship win. However, it’s not going to go the way you expect.
How to Play Connections
Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here.
The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there.
There is only one set of right answers for this, and you only get a certain number of tries so you can’t just spam around until you find something. There are difficulty tiers coded by color, which will usually go from yellow, blue/green to purple as difficulty increases, so know that going in and when you start linking them together.
Play Puzzles & Games on Forbes
You pick the four words you think are linked and either you will get a solve and a lit up row that shows you how you were connected. If you’re close, it will tell you that you’re one away. Again, four mistakes you lose, but if you want to know the answers without failing, either come here, or delete your web cookies and try again. If you want to play more puzzles, you can get an NYT Games subscription to access the full archives of all past puzzles. So, onto the hints and answers:

What Are Today’s Connections Groups?
Alright, the full spoilers follow here as we get into what the groups are today:
- 🟡 Yellow Group - Featuring Silent and Pronounced Ks
- 🟢 Green Group - Endorse
- 🔵 Blue Group - Kinds of Chairs
- 🟣 Purple Group - Words Repeated in Hit Song Titles
What Are Today’s Connections Answers?
The full-on answers are below for each group, finally inserting the four words in each category. Spoilers follow if you do not want to get this far. The Connections answers are:
- 🟡 Yellow Group - Featuring Silent and Pronounced Ks (JACKKNIFE, KNAPSACK, KNICKS, KNOCK-KNOCK)
- 🟢 Green Group - Endorse (BACK, BOLSTER, CHAMPION, SUPPORT)
- 🔵 Blue Group - Kinds of Chairs (BEANBAG, RECLINER, ROCKER, STOOL)
- 🟣 Purple Group - Words Repeated in Hit Song Titles (JUMPIN’, LOUIE, NEW YORK, REBEL)
Well, they clearly wanted to feature the Knicks, but as seen in the extremely tricky Yellow Group, they didn’t pair it with the obvious Champion or New York. Rather, it’s a bizarre category about how you pronounce Ks in words, which I cannot say I’ve ever seen in this game before. I had no idea.
Green Group is one of the easier ones today, as that’s where Champion goes, and Back, Bolster and Support all make sense even before you put that in. The rule is that if there’s three clues that add up, it’s almost certain you’re getting it right, and you just have to find the fourth.
Blue Group was also not difficult, as though Rocker isn’t quite a rocking chair, you will probably realize that it’s an alternate name for one. The rest of these follow the rule of three where you just needed the fourth to add it up.
Purple Group is actually hard for once, and not a “word + blank” the way it his half the time. I would never have doubled these words, even though I get it now:
Jumpin’ Jumpin’ - Destiny’s Child
New York, New York - Frank Sinatra
Rebel Rebel - David Bowie
Louie Louie - The Kingsmen
