Padres continue to fall in the rankings after a frustrating road trip

Playing in a division with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Diego Padres know they have to be at their best all season long to stack up, and unfortunately, that has not been the case.

While the team does not look bad compared to some other teams in the division, they are making things harder for themselves with a rather lackluster offense.

Going into Monday's games, the Padres rank dead last in team batting average, runs scored, and OPS, while they rank near the bottom in terms of OBP and slugging percentage.

So, with a poor offense, it was going to be tough to come away with series wins last week against the red-hot Chicago Cubs and MLB's darling, the Dodgers.

They got swept by the Cubs, giving up an astounding 23 runs in the finale on Wednesday. They then could only muster one win against the Dodgers, losing the series 1-3, making for a 1-6 week.

With this, Bleacher reports Kerry Miller bumps this team down a few spots in his latest power rankings from No. 15 to No. 19.

"Since starting out 31-20, the Padres have gone an MLB-worst 13-25 dating back to May 24. And while the old saying is that it's always darkest before the dawn, losing 23-3 to the Cubs on Wednesday was merely the midpoint of an eight-game losing skid. All of a sudden, San Dego is four games out of the wild card picture with the lowest-scoring offense in the majors thanks to that."

San Diego needs to turn things around and do it fast. Or they will be left in no man's land during the trade deadline, being too good to sell, but not good enough to add pieces that can help them this season.
