The Boston Red Sox are scheduled to play the New York Mets at 7:15 p.m. ET on Friday at Citi Field in Queens.
As of 2 p.m. ET, though, the Red Sox were still in Chicago, where they wrapped up a series with the White Sox on Thursday.
It's a race against the clock to make it to the Big Apple in time for first pitch.

Red Sox flight updates
The Boston Globe's Tim Healey provided an initial update on X at 1:50 p.m. ET:
"Sources: The Red Sox are still in Chicago. The plan remains for them to play the Mets tonight … but they need to make it to New York first."
MassLive's Chris Cotillo was next, with this update at 1:57 p.m. ET:
"Current flight plans have Red Sox set to land at LGA at 4:10 p.m. ET, less than three hours first pitch. The good news is Citi Field is right next door. But still, the window is getting tight."
In addition to being held up in Chicago, the weather at La Guardia Airport doesn't look ideal.
SNY's Chelsea Janes shared this weather forecast at 2:09 p.m. ET:
This is like, actually gonna be close… pic.twitter.com/MumqReRX87
— Chelsea Janes (@chelsea_janes) July 10, 2026This isn't an unheard of scenario, but it's certainly pretty rare. Ballplayers have pregame routines, and very few of them will be met Friday for the Red Sox.
Sonny Gray is supposed to pitch for Boston, and they'll have to hope his veteran moxie can make up for this odd schedule.
The Mets have Nolan McLean on the mound, and his stuff is filthy enough to flummox any lineup -- the Red Sox will have to hope the unusual day helps them think less and just see ball, hit ball.
