Khloé Kardashian has come under fire after she admitted to declawing her two cats, Grey Kitty and Baby Kitty, and acknowledged that she had been “misadvised.”
For reference, declawing a cat is a surgical procedure where a veterinarian removes the cat’s claws by amputating the last bone of each toe, like removing the tip of a human finger at the last knuckle. It is usually done to prevent pets from scratching, but it can cause the cat significant pain as well as long-term issues.

For this reason, declawing cats is not only highly controversial; it is also illegal in several countries and parts of the United States — including Khloé’s home state of California. While the state as a whole did not ban the procedure until January 2026, it has been banned in Los Angeles — where Khloé lives — since 2009.

Khloé got her first cat, Grey Kitty, in 2021, as a gift for her daughter, True. She then got Baby Kitty in 2024.

And Khloé opened up about the situation during Wednesday’s episode of her podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land, where she said: “I was really misadvised about getting my cats declawed. I've never owned cats before. I didn't even know that was a thing. I feel really, really terrible that I did go in this direction.”

“I feel like that's why my cats are miserable, and it was my doing,” the star went on, adding that she has to be extra cautious about them going outside because they now have no way of protecting themselves.

She said: “My cats wear Air Tags, like, they're not allowed to even go near a door. I'm so afraid if they get out, because they have no way to defend themselves. They've lost their protection tools, so it makes me sad.”

Unsurprisingly, Khloé’s revelation has not landed well, with many criticizing her across social media. On a Reddit forum, one person pointed out: “So sad and unnecessary. She has the resources to have someone groom and clip the cat’s nails weekly.”

One more echoed: “There is also absolutely no reason for her to have had it done. If a cat scratches something up, she has the money to replace it or get it fixed. If she's worried the cat might scratch her kids, she has the money for a groomer to do at home weekly trims/grooming, also she could teach your kids not to mess with animals. It's disgustingly thoughtless and out of touch.”
Somebody else wrote: “Must be nice to live in such an out of touch information silo you’re not even aware how inhumane declawing is,” while another noted: “She has access to the same internet as we do, it’s hard to find someone to even do it, even if she was misdeed there’s information everywhere that it’s bad to do and she still did it. No sympathy from me.”
