Spurs have Lakers free agent target to pursue after Tobias Harris deal

The San Antonio Spurs have already landed some really good players, though it begs the question of whether they’ll be interested in another after signing Tobias Harris.

At any given second over the next few weeks, the Spurs can make a splash to get better on both sides of the basketball. As of right now, there are a few players who make more sense for the Spurs to land than others, and one of them is Rui Hachimura.

Hachimura, the Los Angeles Lakers free agent, would be a great piece to what San Antonio is trying to build. The Spurs clearly need a knockdown four who can hit open shots, and Hachimura does just that. For that reason and more, it was recently predicted that he'd end up in San Antonio.

“San Antonio Spurs – The Spurs would be a great fit for Tobias Harris, but he might be slightly outside their price range. Instead, the pivot should be to the Lakers’ forward Rui Hachimura. He looked pretty good this past season, averaging 11.5 PPG while shooting 44.3 percent from beyond the arc (1.7 3PM per game). The 6-foot-8 forward would provide San Antonio with the added depth and talent it needs at the four, even if Hachimura isn’t the best rebounder to put alongside Victor Wembanyama. He’ll do the little things that strengthen the Spurs’ rotation,” Matt Johnson wrote.

The only question for the Spurs is whether they want to give him the money that he's probably looking for on the open market.

There's a strong argument to be made that Hachimura is the best wing available, at least in terms of a role player. There's a price to be paid for that, so I'm interested to see if that's the direction the Spurs decide to go. They definitely need a player of his caliber, so there's a lot to be excited about in that regard if they were to land him.
