Spurs move on from one young player to continue investing in David Jones-Garcia

The San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a new two-way contract with David Jones-Garcia, bringing the young guard back to the organization. However, the decision wasn’t easy to make for San Antonio. In order to create an opening for Jones-Garcia on a two-way deal, the Spurs were required to waive one of their existing two-way players.

San Antonio did not immediately reveal which player had been released to make room for the move. However, Yahoo Sports' Kelly Iko later confirmed that Emmanuel Miller was the player waived by the franchise.

“Additionally, San Antonio is waiving forward Emmanuel Miller, sources told @YahooSports,” Iko wrote.

Miller first signed with the Spurs in February of this year and later represented the team in six Summer League games. Before joining San Antonio, he appeared in five NBA games for the Chicago Bulls last season, averaging 3.0 points in 6.6 minutes per game.

Meanwhile, Jones-Garcia went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft before joining the Spurs ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. He enjoyed an outstanding year in the G League, averaging 26.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He also made 11 NBA appearances during the season, averaging 2.9 points, 1.6 assists, and 1.2 rebounds per game in limited rotation minutes.

Jones-Garcia had been putting together a stellar campaign before suffering a season-ending injury that cut his progress short. Despite that setback, the Spurs remained committed to their long-term development plan for the talented guard from the Dominican Republic. Now the young star will have another opportunity to try to make it to the NBA.
