Everybody is making it seem like the New York Yankees or Los Angeles Dodgers will end up with Tarik Skubal, though I think most Yankees fans would suggest that Skubal landing in New York is much less likely than him going to Los Angeles.
Arguably, the best pitcher in the world, even after coming back from this injury, doesn't have to be traded. It isn't as if the Detroit Tigers are forced to move on from him, but there's an expectation in Major League Baseball that he'll be moved.
According to the latest report from Jeff Passan, it seems like the Yankees, Dodgers, and now even the Toronto Blue Jays could be of interest for the left-hander's services. Passan went as far as to say that there's an 85% chance that the Cy Young Award winner will be traded.
“Chance of being traded: 85% Rest-of-season impact: Game-changing Years of control: Just the remainder of 2026
“The buzz: Skubal returned from midseason bone chip surgery in record time and hit 99.9 mph with his fastball, so any concerns about his stuff returning have been answered. His future depends on whether the Tigers can muster a run at an American League playoff spot,” Jeff Passan wrote.
The talk will be about which team lands Skubal, but the Tigers must also be pretty excited if the final three teams for him are the Blue Jays, Dodgers, and Yankees.
Those three teams not only have a need for his services, but they also have above-average farm systems, so we could see a great battle here to get one of the best pitchers baseball has ever seen.
