If history is any indication, the Texas Longhorns could soon be celebrating back-to-back titles. But the Women's College World Series is not over yet.
Dating back to 2005, in the best-of-three format in the WCWS finals, winners of Game 1 have gone on to win the series 80% of the time, per ESPN. And after Texas took down Texas Tech to open the finals on Wednesday, the No. 2-seeded Longhorns will have their chance on Thursday to sweep the series and officially secure their second-straight championship.
Two-time national pitcher of the year NiJaree Canady may have something to say about that, however, as she's been penciled in as the Red Raiders' likely starter for Game 2 with their season on the line. Texas Tech is still out for revenge — these teams went the distance to a Game 3 in the 2025 championship round, but it was the Longhorns who emerged victorious.
Can Texas close it out again, or will Texas Tech force another Game 3?
