Wonder Woman
DCJames Gunn’s DCU is starting off pretty interestingly, first with the Creature Commandos ahimated series, and now with an increasingly long string of castings for projects like Superman, Supergirl and Lanterns.
Now, fans believe they’ve landed on a new, upcoming casting choice, this time for Wonder Woman. Normally fancasts are not really a thing, but more than any other superhero universe, I think Gunn’s choices often land in the “oh yeah of course that person is playing that role” camp. I’d say this about Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane and more recently Jason Momoa’s Lobo, for a few examples. But we also have two instances of very quick castings of very hot young actors, the first being House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock landing Supergirl after Gunn saw her in that show.
But the second? That was a fan cast that was brought to life almost instantly. Essentially the day that Rebel Ridge premiered on Netflix, fans were saying that its star, Aaron Pierre, would be perfect for the role of Green Lantern John Stewart. Quite literally a month later, after a series of auditions, he had the part and will be starring in the crime drama Lanterns on HBO across from Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan.
Andor
DisneyAll this leads to what is currently another clue-based, preference-based fan casting of a new role, and that is the idea that actress Adria Arjona should and possibly will play Wonder Woman in the DCU.
Where you recognize Arjona from may depend on your recent viewing habits. That may be her part in Andor, or it could be opposite Glen Powell in Hit Man. I most recently saw her in Blink Twice with Channing Tatum. In 2025, she will be in Criminal, a new Prime Video series. The list of ideas/evidence? Here are a few:
- There is at least some amount of insider reporting that she’s been eyed for some sort of DCU role.
- She very much looks like should could be Wonder Woman, clearly.
- James Gunn just started following her on Instagram.
- She is dating the just-cast DCU Lobo, Jason Momoa, and Gunn loves to cast people like his own wife and brother in things, so he may respect that sort of connection.

NBCU Photo Bank/NBCUniversal via Getty ImagesI would normally say that this may seem far-fetched based on that alone, and that fan castings rarely work out, but in this case? I think the DCU is more open to “the popular vote” than other instances of casting superheroes, and even if they’re not making the decision, I at least think that James Gunn takes a look at these kinds of actors pretty closely, which is how we get things like the Alcock and Pierre situations. The final call of course is with him, but he has a knack for grabbing extremely comic accurate-looking, so-hot-right-now actors for these roles.
The case against Arjona? I’ve heard the idea that she’s not tall enough to be an Amazonia at 5’7”. Gal Gadot was 5’10”. There’s also the idea that…Wonder Woman does not actually need to be cast any time soon because she’s not showing up in any announced projects. There was some initial confusion where Gal Gadot seemed to indicate that she’d be coming back for another Wonder Woman movie in the DCU, but that was shot down. And when the actual projects were announced, the Amazonian one was Paradise Lost, a Wonder Woman prequel series that is not yet greenlit. That may not be here until 2027, if it does arrive, and who knows when Wonder Woman proper will be here as she’s not supposed to be in that show. These other actually cast roles are for imminent projects.
Since this is not a rumor that she’s actually been picked, I don’t know if James Gunn will chime in as he often does to quash things. He may say she’s not being considered or they’re not casting the role at all right now, but we’ll see. But in the DCU, fan castings have panned out before, so never say never.
