'Strania EX' is now available on the Nintendo Switch.
G.revOriginally released back in 2011, Strania is one of G.rev’s best games, and it is now finally available on the Switch.
The Switch version, which includes extra features and new content, is also being called Strania EX. For starters, the Side Vower DLC is included as standard, and we also get some all-new arranged versions of the already amazing music.
The music in the original Strania is arguably one of the best gaming soundtracks ever made. Composed by the very talented Keishi Yonao, so seeing it expanded upon here in this new version makes me very happy indeed.
The other changes involve a general balancing pass across the whole game to make it more approachable and easier to play. The original game was a bit exacting, so I understand why this was done.
However, the flipside to this is that you also have an all-new “Hell” difficulty, which is even harder than the toughest aspects of the original game.
Another nice change is that you can access the “true” ending of the game just by playing it on Normal difficulty, which is again a nice touch.
Overall, Strania EX, for me, feels like the best version of the game and plays great. I had a lot of fun playing through it yesterday and it’s still one of my favorite mecha themed shmups.
You can still buy the original Strania on Steam, but I would strongly recommend you check out this new Strania EX version, especially as it only costs $14.99 on the Switch.
My only hope is that G.rev re-releases and remasters more of its gaming back catalog. I would love to see Border Down released for modern consoles as that too is a shmup classic.
