The ‘Marvel Rivals’ Hero That Can Hit Grandmaster Doing Zero Damage

They call him a heal bot, and it turns out, that’s more true than anyone realizes. A specific character in Marvel Rivals was played by someone to prove a point, and they ended up landing at the ultra-high Grandmaster ranked tier of the game with zero kills and even zero points of damage.

That would be u/Habooskie who shared the achievement on reddit. The character in question is Rocket Raccoon, easily the best person to try this with because of his moveset. Again, this was zero kills or damage, and he ended up with 3,400+ assists and 2.9 million points of healing.

Rocket’s kit makes this uniquely possible:

  • His alt fire is a bouncing heal orb which is the sole source of his (very strong) healing.
  • He spawns a revive tool that also shoots out armor and does no damage.
  • He has a jetpack mobility move to escape, and it does no damage if it hits an enemy.
  • His ultimate does not generate damage itself, it simply gives his team a damage buff.

So it’s only his primary fire that does damage, and I wonder if this person disabled that button so he didn’t accidentally click it out of instinct.

You really just…cannot do this on any other characters. Almost all other strategists link healing with at least some amount of incidental damage whether that’s Cloak and Dagger or Luna Snow. If you tried this with say, Mantis, you wouldn’t be doing damage to recharge your healing abilities which would make you utterly useless. The same is true for really all other heroes, Loki, Adam Warlock, Invisible Woman, Jeff. There’s either too much risk for incidental damage or not doing damage would make you so useless it’s unlikely you’d be able to get as high as Grandmaster.

Rocket may be in for some nerfs. Not because of this specific achievement, but he’s now the second highest-performing hero in the game with a very high 54% win rate, second only to the super-buffed Storm, and a huge 32% pick rate with only a 1% ban rate. The healers behind him are Mantis at #4 and Loki at #9.

I find this pretty hilarious. I’ve used Rocket plenty but I never really thought about doing zero damage. Not that I’m doing much damage or getting tons of kills. It’s certainly hard to perform as an aggressive style of support when the only tool you have is your basic fire on your primary weapon. Rocket may be headed to some nerfs after some buffs for season 1, so enjoy him while he lasts.
