Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in Bedford.

Thomas Taylor was attacked by a group of males at 5.50pm on Wednesday as he walked along Greenhill Street, near the town's bus station, police said.

Thomas suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, but he died a short time later.

A 17-year-old and two 18-year-olds have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death.

The trio have been taken into custody for questioning.

Bedfordshire Police also said a man in his 60s, who was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of assisting an offender, has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Paying tribute to Thomas, Bedford Academy headteacher Chris Deller said: "We are deeply upset and shocked to hear the sad news that a Bedford Academy student has lost their life."

He described the victim as a "popular, well-liked, and respected lad" who had recently finished year 11, before going on to study at sixth form.

"Our focus now is on supporting the family through such a difficult period, whilst helping our students and wider community to come to terms with such a tragic loss," he added.
