Twins predicted to upgrade pitching staff using fascinating trade plan

The Minnesota Twins are hovering around postseason contention this season, and could very well end up as trade deadline buyers if they close out July and begin August on a strong note.

As they prepare for the deadline, if they are buying, then starting pitching and bullpen are their top need to address. While they could sell, in an ideal world, they would upgrade the rotation and/or the bullpen.

Dan Hayes of The Athletic is predicting that the Twins will wind up trading for MLB help, but to do so, he's predicting they'll end up using some Major League talent to improve the rotation.

"In an effort to bolster their long-shot odds, the Twins will trade someone with experience off their 40-man roster - perhaps Matt Wallner, Ryan Jeffers or Trevor Larnach - to acquire major-league pitching help," Hayes writes. "The club also will dip into its farm system, though not at an all-in level, to add useful pieces to Derek Shelton's big-league bullpen and perhaps the rotation."

This trade deadline prediction for the Twins would be a very fascinating one. While the Twins might be trying to contend, pushing for a postseason spot with their 53-54 record, they could trade from their MLB roster.

All three of the players Hayes notes could be on the move to make this prediction come true have been rumored to be in trade talks this summer.

Jeffers has been strongly linked to the New York Yankees, and the Twins could end up pursuing someone like Camilo Doval in a deal with New York to bolster their bullpen.

Larnach and Wallner are outfielders who would surely help land a decent player in return. Upgrading the rotation and bullpen are musts for the Twins if they want to contend, and using these three MLB veterans would be a smart way of improving the team.

Jeffers should receive significant trade interest, while Larnach and Wallner should also be good enough trade chips to improve the MLB rotation and/or the bullpen.

This prediction is a fascinating one for the Twins, as they could sell some Major Leaguers this summer to improve the overall makeup of the team for a postseason push.

Hayes is predicting the Twins will buy this summer, but also trade from their MLB roster in the process. It could be a win-win for the Twins, as they sell their top trade chips while still improving the roster. It won't be easy, but if it works, it would be a great idea.
