Victor Wembanyama reveals his favorite part of the NBA 2K27 cover, and it's not about him

The San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama has officially been unveiled as the Standard Edition cover athlete for NBA 2K27. The French phenom will headline the game's Standard Edition cover.

The featured cover image captures the exact moment the Spurs secured their spot in the 2026 playoffs during a regular-season matchup against the Phoenix Suns. Beyond Wembanyama's central image, the artwork also includes subtle appearances from teammates Dylan Harper and Devin Vassell.

Wembanyama said his favorite part of the cover is that it includes his teammates, making it even more special to him.

"Very important. Put my teammates in there, and a moment of emotion. I don't think there's a singular better photo for the cover,” Wembanyama said.

With the honor, Wembanyama becomes the first player in San Antonio Spurs history to appear on the global Standard Edition cover of the NBA 2K franchise. Although franchise icons Tony Parker and Pau Gasol previously appeared on regional international editions, Wembanyama is the first Spur to headline the game's worldwide release.

The cover selection caps off a remarkable 2025-26 season for Wembanyama. He made NBA history by becoming the league's first unanimous Defensive Player of the Year. The 22-year-old also led the young Spurs on a postseason run that ended with an appearance in the 2026 NBA Finals, where San Antonio ultimately fell to the New York Knicks.

Joining Wembanyama as NBA 2K27 cover athletes are Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark and former NBA MVP Derrick Rose. The Standard Edition is scheduled for worldwide release on Sept. 4. However, the Deluxe and Ultra editions will be available through early access beginning Aug. 28.
