LeBron James is taking his time deciding where he will continue his career. After spending the last eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, James is officially headed to a new team.

James won an NBA championship with the Lakers in 2020 but never returned to the NBA Finals during his tenure in Los Angeles. The four-time NBA champion informed the organization early in free agency that he would not be returning.

“LeBron James will return for an unprecedented 24th season in the NBA -- but it won't be with the Los Angeles Lakers. James has informed the Lakers that the franchise can move on without him because he will play elsewhere, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday,” ESPN wrote.

James' free agency has been one of the biggest storylines of the offseason, with teams around the league waiting for his decision. However, he reportedly is not taking meetings with interested franchises.

“As of right now there are no plans for LeBron to engage in any meetings to allow teams to pitch him on the idea of coming to their prospective teams...his agent Rich Paul is doing all the background work. He's talking with teams and then he in return he will relay all the intel and data to LeBron James in which LeBron will make a decision,” NBA insider Chris Haynes said.

According to recent reports, James has narrowed his list of potential destinations to five teams after removing the Denver Nuggets from consideration.

“The Nuggets have been removed from LeBron James’ list of potential destinations, per Shams Charania. Five teams now remain in the LeBron sweepstakes: Cavaliers, Heat, Sixers, Timberwolves, Warriors,” NBA reporter Evan Sidery wrote.

Any of those five teams would become immediate championship contenders with James on the roster. Philadelphia and Minnesota, in particular, could emerge as especially dangerous teams given the talent already in place.

James played last season on a $101 million contract, though his next deal is expected to be worth considerably less. While a decision does not appear to be imminent, the remaining contenders are expected to continue making their cases through roster construction, recruiting efforts, and contract negotiations until James ultimately chooses his next destination.
