The Golden State Warriors’ offseason has been relatively uneventful thus far.
The seven-time NBA champions re-signed De’Anthony Melton, Kristaps Porzingis, and Al Horford, but have yet to make a needle-moving move to give Stephen Curry a championship-level supporting cast.
Heavy’s Sean Deveney believes that could soon change, as he’s under the impression that there’s a world where the Dubs would trade a $39 million rising star to give them ample room to strike a free agent deal for a former Los Angeles Lakers four-time NBA champion.
“Moody has developed into a valuable piece for Golden State, but a nasty knee injury could keep him out for most of next season,” Heavy’s Sean Deveney wrote Sunday. “The Warriors are short on time, so could move Moody to make room for LeBron James or Rui Hachimura.”
There’s no question that James will remain the Warriors’ top offseason target until he makes a decision on his next NBA destination. Fans shouldn’t be fooled by James’ advanced age (41), as he isn’t an ordinary aging superstar.
The 22-time All-Star’s brute strength, ambidextrous finishing around the rim, and magician-like distributing are still strengths in 23 years after entering the league, which would give the Warriors another prolific offensive threat to pair with Stephen Curry. James averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds with the Lakers last season while embracing the role as the organization's No. 3 playmaker.
Although Moody is coming off an encouraging 2025-26 campaign in which he contributed a career-high 12.1 points on 44.0% field goal shooting and 40.1.% from beyond the arc, trading him to make it easier for them to potentially land James should be a no-brainer move for the Dubs.
