LeBron James will ultimately have the final say on what happens over the next few weeks to months. James, who is in the back half of his career and has a real opportunity to join any contending team that he probably wants around the NBA, could end up going nearly anywhere.
If James says he wants to play for a certain team, it's all but guaranteed that said team would be interested in signing him.
One of those teams is the Golden State Warriors, with reports suggesting the Warriors are interested. According to the latest report, there are reasons for that, with one ESPN writer going so far as to say that much of it is due to how low-risk this move would be for Golden State.
“Part of LeBron's appeal to the Warriors is the low risk. It would be a short-term signing without the loss of a draft pick to acquire him. Despite some league sources believing that an asset-dependent trade for Anthony Davis might be necessary to lure James, the Warriors haven't been told that directly and haven't been engaging Washington on it, team sources said,” Anthony Slater wrote.
That's the one positive in adding James at this time of his career.
Not to say he's not a winning basketball player and can't help a team, but there's no debate that being able to sign him for pretty much free is part of what makes all of this so enticing.
That's probably also 90% of the reason the Warriors might not sign him, since other teams will feel the same way.
