What happened to Carlos Rodon? Why Yankees lefty is headed to injured list

1 hour ago 1

The New York Yankees have been struggling a bit lately, as they're in the middle of a seven-game losing streak, dropping a four-game series to the Boston Red Sox and a three-game set to the Detroit Tigers.

Ahead of their next series against the Minnesota Twins in New York, the Yankees announced some incredibly unfortunate news amid the returns of Trent Grisham and Ryan McMahon.

The Yankees announced that Carlos Rodon landed on the injured list, seemingly out of nowhere, as there was no indication after his most recent start that something was wrong. But now, Rodon will be out for a while, and the injury diagnosis is a little worrying.

Why Carlos Rodon is landing on IL for the Yankees

"Placed LHP Carlos Rodon on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to 6/30) with left elbow inflammation," the Yankees announced.

This is a tough blow for the Yankees and Rodon, as their recent losing streak is now being met with the loss of one of their key pitchers.

This season, Rodon had a 3.30 ERA with 52 strikeouts and a 4-2 record in nine starts. He missed time to begin the year as he came back from injury, and now he is headed back to the injured list and will miss a bit more time.

Anytime a pitcher has elbow inflammation, it's something to worry about. While Rodon might not miss that much time, this is still a worrying injury update that came out of nowhere.

His most recent outing wasn't exactly the best, as he walked four and struck out five batters against the Red Sox. He only allowed one hit and didn't give up a run. Plus, there wasn't any note afterwards about his health.

But now, he's hitting the injured list, will miss through the All-Star break, and potentially even longer, as this left elbow issue is now a very concerning one for Rodon and the Yankees.
