White Sox 'dream' trade deadline move is also their 'best' option in 4.13 ERA Angels ace

The Chicago White Sox are heading to the 2026 MLB trade deadline as buyers. After years of selling, the White Sox are finally going to look at the market to improve the team, and not build for the future.

While they could use more bullpen help, and there's space open for an outfield upgrade, their real top need is the starting rotation. Davis Martin is good, but that's about it for the White Sox this season.

ESPN's Jeff Passan identified the "Best match" at the deadline for the White Sox, and it was a 4.13 ERA ace from the Los Angeles Angels in Reid Detmers, who also happens to be their "dream" deadline pickup.

At the same time, while Detmers is Chicago's best match, he's also a dream because it's unclear if Angels owner Arte Moreno will allow interim general manager John Mozeliak to trade any players with multiple years of club control."

There's no better fit for the White Sox this summer at the trade deadline than Detmers, at least, according to Passan.

He's a good starting pitcher who, despite his 4.13 ERA, has some filthy stuff a team would be very excited about.

Besides, Detmers would be such a good option for the White Sox because he is also under club control beyond 2026. This sudden ascension from the White Sox is fun, but it would make more sense to continue building long-term and not add expensive rentals this year.

Detmers, the 27-year-old left-handed starter, is under club control through the 2028 season. That would give the White Sox 2.5 years of control left on his deal, and allow for the team to add rotation help in 2026 and plan for the future at the same time.

The Angels' ace makes a ton of sense for the White Sox, but with the Angels potentially not moving the lefty, Detmers, who is the White Sox's "Best" trade target, is also their "Dream match" at the deadline due to the uncertainty of his availability.
