White Sox get lackluster trade deadline prediction amid agressive question

The Chicago White Sox are sitting atop the AL Central and have a real chance to win the division for the first time in a while.

But, beyond winning the division, the White Sox might also have a chance for a deep postseason run. To further push that agenda, they could make some moves at the 2026 MLB trade deadline to bolster the roster.

However, USA Today's Bob Nightengale is predicting that the White Sox, despite a chance to go all-in with an "aggressive" deadline plan, will have a lackluster deadline as they try to continue to build for the future as well as in 2026.

White Sox predicted not to be aggressive at trade deadline

"They'd love to be in the playoffs, but no, they are not going to be aggressive," Nightengale writes. "They are not going to trade away top prospects and find themselves in the same situation they were in when they had to start another rebuild in 2022."

While the White Sox could justify being aggressive this summer in a wide-open American League, Nightengale is predicting that won't happen.

Chicago needs to upgrade their starting rotation, potentially with two additions, their bullpen, and the team's catcher spot after Kyle Teel's injury.

They have needs at these three spots, and could make some big moves this summer if they wanted to, with a good farm system and reason to buy.

But, as a young, ascending team, the White Sox are trying to balance buying this summer and building for the future.

As much as the White Sox might want to go all-in with this year's team, in reality, they're more likely to have a lackluster deadline with a few lesser moves that still upgrade the team, but not in the dramatic fashion that some of the top options could.
