White Sox 'perfect' trade target is 3.89 ERA Marlins starter

The Chicago White Sox, sitting atop the AL Central with the Cleveland Guardians in lock step with them, are expected to be trade deadline buyers.

While they could upgrade the offense or the bullpen, the starting rotation is the clear area of need for the White Sox to address this summer.

According to Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report, the "perfect" trade target for the White Sox amid such a need is 3.89 ERA Miami Marlins right-handed starting pitcher, Sandy Alcantara.

"Chicago White Sox (62.6% postseason odds): RHP Sandy Alcantara," Miller writes. "... If the White Sox can get that ace for a prorated $5M this year and a $21M club option next year, that would be huge."

While the White Sox are buyers this season, ideally, the players they target will be ones they could have for more than just the 2026 season.

Alcantara is under club control through 2027 with his club option for $21 million. For the White Sox, that would be a no-brainer to accept for the 2027 season.

This year, Alcantara, the 30-year-old former Cy Young winning right-handed ace, has a 3.89 ERA in 21 starts with a 10-5 record, 2.0 bWAR, and 107 strikeouts in an MLB-high 136.2 innings pitched.

He's a workhorse who has high upside and would be a great pitcher to trust atop the rotation for a postseason appearance.

It might cost a lot for the White Sox to add Alcantara in a deal with the Marlins. But, considering the team's need in the rotation and their chance to finally return to the postseason, this likely lofty cost would be worth it for the White Sox.
