White Sox stay put in power rankings after an up-and-down week

The Chicago White Sox have been one of the biggest stories across MLB this season. With very few expectations, they have put themselves in a spot to fight for a division title.

They currently lead the American League Central with their 55-49 record, 2.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians.

It's an exciting time for fans, as for the first time in quite a while, they have done some shopping ahead of the deadline. They acquired Jose Urquidy in a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates for right-handed minor leaguer Felix Doroteo, and that likely won't be the only deal this team makes.

The White Sox didn't have the easiest schedule last week. They took on the American League West-leading Texas Rangers before playing the other Texas club, the Houston Astros.

Chicago was able to get the better of the Rangers, beating them 2-1 in the series, but the same couldn't be said against the Astros, where they lost the series 1-2.

With a 3-3 week, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter keeps the White Sox in the No. 9 spot in his latest power rankings.

"The White Sox have played .500 baseball in July, but they have actually gained ground in the AL Central standings, with their division lead growing from two games to 2.5 games. They acquired Jose Urquidy in an under-the-radar deal with the Pirates last week, and figure to continue looking for ways to bolster the pitching staff without selling the farm."

It's going to be interesting to see what this team does before the trade deadline next week. They do need to bring in some more arms, but the front office won't want to do anything hasty and get rid of exciting prospects on the verge of taking the next step.

Tarik Skubal is probably off the table, but someone like Michael Wacha or Shane Bieber could be something that is attainable.
