White Sox urged to target Mets' All-Star starter at trade deadline

With just over a month until the trade deadline, the Chicago White Sox have a real shot to make the postseason.

They may not stop there. There's a real possibility the White Sox win the AL Central. This is an organization that won 41 games two seasons ago.

However, the roster is drastically different. They've managed to maintain their winning ways while Munetaka Murakami has been on the injured list.

On the pitching side, Chicago could benefit from adding an arm or two. ESPN's David Schoenfield wrote that they should consider making a big addition to the starting rotation.

"The safe thing would be for the White Sox to do nothing at the deadline under the justification that they are still early in the rebuilding process and don't want to trade prospects for short-term help," Schoenfield wrote. "But why not now?"

Schoenfield listed one All-Star pitcher the White Sox should target in a trade: Freddy Peralta of the New York Mets

The Mets would be wise to trade Peralta rather than lose him for nothing when he reaches free agency at the end of the season.

"The rotation's No. 14 ranking in ERA is misleading, as manager Will Venable has relied on a variety of openers. As a result, the White Sox are last in innings pitched from their starters," Schoenfield wrote.

"They need another one. Remember, they're about to add the No. 1 pick in this year's draft (on July 10) to the farm system, so that might embolden general manager Chris Getz to part ways with a couple of midlevel prospects to add a pitcher like Peralta."

Peralta's ERA skyrocketed to 4.81 after two bad outings against the Philadelphia Phillies (10 ER) and Toronto Blue Jays (5 ER).

Still, he can turn out to be very crucial for the White Sox in a postseason series.
