Why Australia wears green and gold jerseys at World Cup

You aren't going to find green or gold in Australia's flag.

But their classic soccer uniforms are made up of those two colors, including at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

It raises an obvious question: Why?

Well, there's an easy answer.

Why does Australia wear green and gold?

Those are Australia's national colors.

They were officially adopted in 1984.

The Golden Wattle is the basis for those colors, with the gold pointing to the wattle flower, while the green color is based on eucalyptus forests and pastures.

Australia wears these green and gold colors in pretty much all of its national sporting endeavors.

The flag itself includes the British Union Jack, along with a red, white and blue theme.

But on fields, courts, and pitches, the Aussies wear green and gold.

That includes the beloved Socceroos.
