Why Dodgers hats have a 'B' on them this weekend

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a different letter on their hats this weekend, starting Saturday night against the New York Mets.

The 'LA' is nowhere to be found. Instead, they've got a 'B' on the front of their hat.

It's not as weird as you initially think, and there's a good reason for it.

Why do the Dodgers hats have a 'B' on them?

The Dodgers have a 'B' for Brooklyn.

That's where they played before moving out West.

Originally, the Dodgers name came because Brooklyn's ball club was called the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers.

That was eventually shortened to Dodgers, with the white script 'B' on the royal blue caps.

The club played in Brooklyn through the 1957 season. In 1958, they became the L.A. Dodgers.

Jackie Robinson broke MLB's color barrier playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers with a 'B' on his Dodgers hat.

This weekend is Hall of Fame Induction Weekend, so teams across MLB are wearing throwback uniforms.

That includes the Dodgers' homage to their Brooklyn roots on their hats.
