Why England-Mexico game isn't playing at scheduled start time with weather update

FIFA had discussions about moving the start time of the England vs. Mexico World Cup Round of 16 match ahead of time.

In the end, it stayed put, but now it isn't starting on time anyway. They're supposed to be kicking off at 8 p.m. ET (6 p.m. local in Mexico City at the Azteca). But weather isn't allowing that to happen.

It delays one of the most intriguing matchups of the World Cup so far.

Mexico hardly ever loses in their national stadium.

England is trying to win a World Cup for the first time since 1966.

Both will have to wait.

Why isn't the England and Mexico game starting on time?

There's severe weather in the area of the Azteca in Mexico City.

There was a bad forecast all along, but it wasn't clear enough when the storms would move in to move the game in advance.

They waited until about an hour before kickoff to decide to delay it.

When is the England and Mexico game starting?

The kickoff has been delayed by one hour.

It will now begin at 9 p.m. ET, which is 7 p.m. locally at the Azteca.

Anyone staying up late in England will have to stay up even later to watch.
