Why Ravens are parting ways with Diego Pavia

If Diego Pavia wants to make an NFL roster as an undrafted rookie out of Vanderbilt, it doesn't appear that it'll be with the Baltimore Ravens.

They announced Thursday that they are waiving Pavia.

The move comes on the eve of training camp as the Ravens get their roster in order.

It's a bummer for the Heisman finalist Pavia, but it made sense for the Ravens.

Why did the Ravens cut Diego Pavia?

The Ravens deemed that they didn't need Pavia, and they needed room for a veteran addition.

The roster spot vacated by Pavia goes to center Ethan Pocic, who comes aboard from the Cleveland Browns at a position of dire need in Baltimore.

The Ravens also have four QBs still on the roster, and they didn't think Pavia was worth keeping around as a fifth.

Lamar Jackson remains the starter, and his clear backup is Tyler Huntley.

Beyond that, Skylar Thompson is the veteran on the roster, and they've got undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano.

Pavia was always a concern for NFL productivity because of his size and lack of overall arm strength. His college success was due in large part to his playmaking and moxie, but not necessarily his passing.

He's also an outspoken figure, and the Ravens must've decided he wasn't key enough to keep around with everything else considered.
