Those keeping track of the New York Yankees' picks in the 2026 MLB Draft would've noticed a familiar name in the eighth round: Luke Pettitte.
Yep, that's Andy Pettitte's son.
Andy, of course, was one of the most clutch pitchers in baseball history during his time in pinstripes.
Luke will have a long way to go to follow in his father's footsteps, but his journey has officially begun this weekend.
The Yanks used pick No. 248 to take Luke off the board from Dallas Baptist, a Division I school in Texas.
Pettitte was listed as a two-way player by the Yankees when they drafted him. That doesn't mean he's going to turn into Shohei Ohtani, but it does mean the Yanks are open to seeing how Luke looks on both sides of the game before deciding which direction to fully commit to.

Luke is right-handed, unlike his father.
"The son of five-time World Series champion Andy Pettitte, Luke was a prospect as right-handed pitcher with a quality mid-80s slider and a low-90s fastball," MLB.com's draft blurb writes. "He injured his elbow as a sophomore in 2025, leading to Tommy John surgery that kept him off the mound this spring. Dallas Baptist gave him at-bats as a DH and he responded by slashing .337/.403/.693 with 16 homers in 42 games."
Only a few players each year are even listed as a two-way player in the draft, so it's fascinating that the Yanks chose that with Luke. They'll likely have to see how his arm heals before making any final decisions.
But it's helpful, for sure, that Luke proved he can contribute as a hitter, too, in case his arm rehab isn't great. And it's certainly cool to have Andy Pettitte's kid joining the Yankees organization.
