A former top prospect in the New York Yankees system may benefit from a change of scenery at the trade deadline.
Over the past few years, his development has stalled, and the hype that made him one of the most anticipated prospects in recent memory fell short of expectations.
So has the youngster's play on the field.
On Friday, The Athletic's Chris Kirschner predicted that the Yankees' outfielder will be wearing a new uniform after the trade deadline.
Yankees predicted to trade outfielder not named Spencer Jones
"Envisioning [Jasson] Domínguez’s future with the Yankees is difficult. Trent Grisham will be a free agent at season’s end, but even if the club doesn’t re-sign him, the Yankees don’t believe in Domínguez’s ability in center field," Kirschner wrote.
In 42 games this season, Domínguez is hitting .232/.270/.394 with five home runs and 12 RBIs while playing spotty defense.
The Yankees shifted him from left to right field when Aaron Judge went down with a fractured rib.
"Cody Bellinger just began a five-year contract, and Aaron Judge has right field locked down. The designated hitter spot could open soon, with Giancarlo Stanton only under contract for one more year," Kirschner added. "

"But Ben Rice could grab that spot, and Judge will likely get more DH days soon. So where does Domínguez fit? He may never be passable defensively, and his bat has been disappointing. Another club could view him as a former No. 1 prospect who is still only 23 years old," he wrote.
Given his lackluster development, Dominguez may not fetch the Yankees a sizeable return.
But if the organization does not view him as a vital piece of the future, moving him may be the best option.
