Anthony Edwards wants to beat LeBron James after passing over the Timberwolves

LeBron James has made his decision, and he will be joining the Philadelphia 76ers. He is now forming yet another loaded team filled with talented players to compete for a championship. Of course, it does not feel like the inevitable championship like the one he won in 2012 with the Miami Heat. Despite that, the 76ers look like a top team with plenty of competitors.

With this decision, LeBron passed over plenty of teams, including his former teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat. However, it seems one team tried their best to convince Bron, and that was the Minnesota Timberwolves. Now, Anthony Edwards is motivated even more to compete.

Anthony Edwards is motivated to dominate against LeBron James

The Timberwolves seemed to be one of the candidates LeBron was choosing between for his decision. Unfortunately for them, it seems the four-time Finals MVP has chosen a team he feels he can win a championship with.

This should motivate the teams he passed over, including the Timberwolves. In fact, it seems Edwards is already on it because he has made his goals known, and that could involve beating James in potential matchups in both the regular season and the NBA Finals.

Edwards wanted James to join the Timberwolves, but when that became clear, he also made sure to voice that he wanted to beat James. That is a good summary of Edwards' mindset, as he will want players to join up with him, but if they don't, they are rivals.

"During a conversation with LeBron James, Anthony Edwards told him if he didn’t make a decision soon, he would tear James’ head off. LeBron laughed and asked Ant what would happen if he chose another team. Edwards didn’t hesitate, telling him that would be OK, because that just meant he could tear James’s head off on the court when their two teams met," The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski said about Edwards' feelings about James' decision.

It will be an interesting 2026-27 season because the Timberwolves will have a strong roster. With LaMelo Ball recently joining the team, they have the backcourt mate that Edwards has been waiting for. The ceiling is high for Minnesota, which could be enough for them to finally break the barrier past the Western Conference Finals.
