Right-hander Aaron Civale has now been designated for assignment twice since his trade request from the Milwaukee Brewers last June.
After making 16 appearances for the Athletics, Civale was DFA'd by the AL West organization on Wednesday.
He posted an ugly 5.82 ERA in 74.2 innings.
The 31-year-old was DFA'd last summer too, with the Chicago White Sox cutting him loose after just 13 outings following the trade from the Brewers.
Civale cleared waivers and was subsequently released by the White Sox, meaning none of the 29 other big league clubs were interested in his services.
"Civale’s DFA makes for a disappointing end to his $6MM free agent deal. The righty took the ball 16 times and turned in a 5.42 earned run average across 74 2/3 innings," Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.
"He also missed a couple weeks with shoulder tendinitis that sidelined him between mid-May and June 17," Franco added. "Civale has taken the loss in all five of his appearances since coming back, allowing 19 earned runs in as many innings."

Now, Civale is in DFA limbo for the third time in a little over a year.
He was a solid but not spectacular middle-of-the-rotation guy during his first five seasons of his career with the Cleveland Guardians.
He has pitched for six clubs in his eight-year MLB career.
Soon that number could increase to seven.
