Caitlin Clark fans are furious with NBA 2K cover for one reason

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are set for a Wednesday clash with the Connecticut Sun, with Indiana sitting at 16-10 and holding down sixth in the WNBA standings. Clark is probable to play after being listed day-to-day with a back issue.

Since joining the league, Clark has drawn massive crowds to both home and away games. The 2024 Rookie of the Year and two-time All-Star starter is having another great season, averaging 20.7 points, 7.8 assists, and 3.9 rebounds.

That popularity made her a natural pick for NBA 2K27's Deluxe Edition cover, announced alongside Victor Wembanyama on the Standard Edition and Derrick Rose on the Ultra Edition.

It's a step up from last year, when Angel Reese fronted the WNBA-specific edition of 2K26 rather than a standard release cover. With this release, Clark becomes the first WNBA player to headline a premium, globally distributed edition of the game. \

So, it should have been an easy win for the Iowa native and the league. But, the cover art is facing negative attention, with folks flooding social media to complain that the digital drawing looks nothing like her.

One fan wrote, "The Caitlin Clark 'NBA 2K27' cover... does not look like her at all."

Another viewer added, "2K using AI slop to make cover art now? Because that is NOT Caitlin Clark."

A third viewer claimed, "Ummmmm this looks nothing like her."

The fourth penned, "That doesn't look like Caitlin Clark... probably going to sell like crazy regardless."

A fifth user remarked, "Doesn't look like her... one of them should be on the cover," referencing Olivia Miles and Paige Bueckers as alternatives some fans preferred.

A random X user noted, "NBA 2k is cooked, using AI when there's hundreds of photos they could use."

2K has not addressed the complaints about her appearance. However, player character models usually arrive closer to launch. NBA 2K27 will release worldwide on Sep. 4, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Fans who pre-order Clark's Deluxe Edition can play early starting August 28.
