Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku appears to be on the brink of a major transfer. Reports suggest the Frenchman is pushing for a move to Bayern Munich during the winter window.

This comes just 18 months after his arrival at Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig.

Nkunku has struggled to establish himself as a regular under head coach Enzo Maresca. Injuries limited his first season to just 14 appearances, but he’s rebounded this campaign with 13 goals in 28 matches.

Despite these numbers, he’s rarely featured in Premier League games, starting in just three out of 18 league appearances. Instead, his opportunities have primarily come in cup competitions, fueling frustration over his role.

Christopher Nkunku to Bayern Munich: Is a January transfer possible?

Journalist Florian Plettenburg revealed that Bayern Munich has identified Nkunku as their top transfer target. Negotiations are underway, with Nkunku reportedly eager to finalize the deal immediately.

A verbal agreement on personal terms is already in place, but Bayern prefers a permanent move rather than a loan.

Adding intrigue, 19-year-old Mathys Tel could play a role in the transfer discussions, as Chelsea has shown interest in the young Bayern forward.

Should Chelsea let Nkunku leave this January?

Maresca hinted at squad management challenges in a press conference. Balancing Nkunku, Joao Felix, and Cole Palmer, all of whom prefer the number 10 role, has proven difficult.

Maresca admitted that it’s tough to consistently field all three players together, further complicating Nkunku’s situation.

As the January window heats up, Nkunku's future looks increasingly uncertain. Whether he’ll feature in Chelsea’s next match or seal a move to Bayern remains to be seen.
