There's been a lot of talk about the Los Angeles Dodgers making a blockbuster move for Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers. I've been on record many times saying that I'd understand if the Dodgers don't want to trade for him.
I'm in the boat that a team that's 61-36, has the best record in all of Major League Baseball, and is looking to go back-to-back-to-back shouldn't really worry about whether a player is going to sign with them in the offseason.
Let's just be honest now: Skubal is represented by Scott Boras, and he's not going to signal to the Dodgers or any team in baseball that he's willing to sign an extension with them at the end of the season.
Skubal believes he's worth $400-plus million, and unless something drastic happens in the new CBA, he's going to get it.
However, according to the latest reports, it doesn't really sound like the Dodgers are as serious a suitor for Skubal as many seem to believe. In fact, they don't really want to move on from any of their top prospects for a potential rental.
“The Dodgers, meanwhile, are a wild card in the Skubal sweepstakes. Per Heyman, the indication coming from the organization to this point is that they are unlikely to surrender premium prospects for a rental, even one the caliber of Skubal. However, Heyman wrote Sunday that some rival teams suspect the Dodgers have been underselling their interest in Skubal,” MLB.com wrote.
I can understand why the Dodgers wouldn't want to do this, even if I disagree with it. Now, if Los Angeles were to not win a World Series and it was just a Skubal away from doing so, I think there would rightfully be some frustration from Los Angeles' fan base.
Only time will tell what the Dodgers decide to do, but it's an interesting story to follow nonetheless.
