The San Francisco Giants have lost some bullpen depth from the organization.
On Wednesday, a right-handed pitcher elected free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Sacramento.
According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Gregory Santos will become a free agent after just three Major League appearances this season with the Giants.
In his second stint with San Francisco, Santos allowed two earned runs on five hits in five innings, striking out one batter in the process.
The most action he's seen in the Majors was in 2023 with the Chicago White Sox, when he threw 66.1 innings for the AL Central club.
Injuries have hurt the 26-year-old's chances to make a significant impact in MLB. He underwent surgery to repair cartilage in his right knee in 2024.
"There’s a clearly talented arm under that pile of injuries, as Santos’ terrific 2023 season illustrates," Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.

"However, he made his professional debut with Boston’s Dominican Summer League club all the way back in 2016 but still has only 347 1/3 professional innings under his belt due to myriad health troubles."
Santos is now free to sign with any club that shows interest in his services.
