The World Cup final is on the horizon, with Spain and Argentina set to meet for the sport's most famous trophy on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, two sides that harbored championship ambitions will meet for a consolation prize of sorts: third place.

France fancied itself the world's best team ahead of the semifinals, only to fall apart at the hands of La Roja's stout defense. Meanwhile, England whisked through the knockout stages before falling victim to Lionel Messi and La Albiceleste.

The Sporting News is tracking live updates from Saturday's semifinal matchup between France and England. Follow below for highlights, analysis and more from the third-place match in Miami.

5:00 p.m.: National anthems have been sung! Warmups have been concluded! Here comes the third-place match between France and England!

4:23 p.m.: Kylian Mbappe will look to slip beyond Messi for Golden Boot honors in today's match. The Argentine playmaker moved out in front via assists in La Albiceleste's emotional win over England. If Mbappe can strike, he would put the pressure on his former teammate ahead of Sunday's match.

3:45 p.m.: Starting lineups for tonight's contest are out! As expected, there are changes in both lineups, with France giving Malo Gusto, Rayan Cherki and Warren Zaire-Emery starts. The Three Lions, meanwhile, will put Dean Henderson in goal. Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney, Jarrell Quansah and Ezri Konsa all get selected for tonight's tilt.

2:00 p.m.: Strong words from French defender Ibrahima Konate, who admitted that neither Les Bleus nor the Three Lions wanted to play in today's third-place match. Alas, they have no choice in the matter.

"Not one of us want to play this game for third place, but we don't have the choice." 😳

1:30 p.m.: There was plenty of speculation regarding England manager Thomas Tuchel's future after the Three Lions' capitulation against Argentina. However, both Tuchel and the English FA confirmed that he's planning to remain England boss for the foreseeable future.

12:30 p.m.: It's unclear at present whether France and England will put out full-strength teams in this one. It seems likelier that a mix of starters and bench talent will be used in this one, with sparingly-played stars like Rayan Cherki, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Kobbie Mainoo seeming the likeliest candidates to log heavy minutes on Saturday night.
