Giants' 4X All-Star is 'perfect' trade fit for Red Sox

Though their miraculous winning streak came to an end, the Boston Red Sox are now firmly in the AL Wild Card race.

The AL East title is not out of the question either.

Now that the Red Sox don't plan to sell, players like Aroldis Chapman, Sonny Gray, and Willson Contreras won't be going anywhere.

Instead, Boston is an obvious buyer with less than two weeks remaining until the trade deadline. The front office could look for an upgrade in the infield.

On Friday, The Athletic's Jim Bowden tabbed the "perfect" trade fit for the Red Sox, an infielder from the San Francisco Giants.

Red Sox linked to Luis Arraez

"The Red Sox could use another bat, and Arraez would be a solid fit in their lineup and at second base. He has really improved his defense this year thanks to a lot of hard work with infield coach Ron Washington, who is one of the best in the game at teaching infield," Bowden wrote about Luis Arraez's potential fit with the Red Sox.

Arraez has really turned the narrative about his defense around.

Before this year, he was known as a well-below-average defender at second base. Now, he's got 11 Outs Above Average at the position.

"Arraez consistently puts pressure on defenses with his contact ability, and he would be a big help to a Red Sox offense that ranks in the bottom third in the league in OBP. With his ability to go the other way, he could take huge advantage of the Green Monster and perhaps turn some of his singles into doubles," Bowden added.

"He doesn’t have speed or home run power, but he’s an elite hitter for average who is in the middle of one of his best seasons in the big leagues."

With Arraez, the Red Sox would get a pesky leadoff hitter who's unlike anyone in baseball.

While Anthony Siegler and Isiah Kiner-Falefa are not terrible options at second base, Arraez would be an upgrade.
