Giants' 4X All-Star, trade chip is 'one hundred percent' staying at second base

As the San Francisco Giants prepare for the trade deadline, there's at least one player who is as close to a sure thing to being traded as anyone in MLB.

The second baseman earned the fourth All-Star selection of his career, but he doesn't know which team he'll be playing for in the coming weeks.

Regardless, three-time batting champion Luis Arraez wants to stay at second base.

“This is a business, so whatever team wants to give me the opportunity to help, it's going to be at second base,” Arraez told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. “I don't like to go back to first base; I prepared my mind, I prepared my body to only play second base."

Despite struggles at the position in recent years, Arraez has been a stellar defender in 2026.

His 10 outs above average place him in the 99th percentile among qualified MLB fielders. Perhaps Giants infield coach Ron Washington plays a major role in Arraez's progress.

At the All-Star break, Arraez is slashing .330/.369/.460 with four home runs and a 136 OPS+.

If Arraez is traded, it will be for the third time in his career. The Minnesota Twins sent him to the Miami Marlins in the offseason of 2023.

Then, the Marlins traded Arraez to the San Diego Padres in May 2024.

Whichever club he lands on next, better know that he's playing second base.
