Giants receive encouraging Luis Arraez trade projection from NL scout

The San Francisco Giants are looking to be sellers at the 2026 MLB trade deadline after a brutal start to the season. There are plenty of fun names to monitor.

While Matt Chapman, Willy Adames, Rafael Devers, and Robbie Ray are some of the top names, the most sensible trade chip for the Giants is obviously Luis Arraez. He's playing great defense at second base and is still hitting very well.

According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, one National League scout shared a high opinion of Arraez this summer in the trade market that bodes well for the Giants to receive a solid return in a deal with the $12 million second baseman.

Giants get good news on potential trade return for Luis Arraez

"The same NL scout who questioned the trade value of San Francisco's starters pointed to Arraez as one Giants veteran who will draw interest over the weeks ahead," Rogers writes.

While this isn't necessarily anything brand-new for the Giants, it's noteworthy that an NL scout diminished the potential return the Giants could get for Robbie Ray and Tyler Mahle, but lauded the potential return for Arraez.

If there's significant interest in Arraez, as it seems like there will be this summer, the Giants should be able to drive up the price in a bidding war for one of the best infielders available by this year's trade deadline.

For any team in need of infield help, specifically at second base or even first base, Arraez might be the best option possible this season.

While the giants won't be able to demand a ton in return for Arraez, as he's a rental option, the return should still be very strong among rental trade targets.

This season, Arraez has posted 2.5 bWAR with a .326 batting average, three homers, and an .813 OPS. He's been very impressive this season, and arguably should be an All-Star with how good he's been offensively and defensively.

Selling is a bit disappointing for the Giants, but at least in the case of Arraez, they should be able to get a solid return with this NL scout believing the trade market for the batting champion will be hot this summer.
