Saturday night could be a celebration 53 years in the making for the New York Knicks.
The 2026 NBA Finals have reached a breaking point, with the Knicks able to close out what's become an action-packed, intense series against the San Antonio Spurs. Even if there's little chance of New York topping its Game 4 effort — completing the largest comeback in Finals history behind OG Anunoby's heroics — no matter the fashion, Mike Brown's squad has a chance to win it all on the road in Game 5.
However, while it's easy to look at the Knicks' 3-1 advantage and Game 4 comeback and assume these Finals are all but over, the Spurs have been competitive, and borderline dominant, at some point in all four games. Heading into Game 5, in each matchup so far, San Antonio has held a double-digit advantage at some point, but Victor Wembanyama and company have struggled to hold onto those advantages. With their backs now against the wall, the young Spurs have no choice but to respond in front of their home fans.
Flushing what went from a historic shooting night to a historic collapse will be tough for the Spurs, especially against a Knicks team that continues to find new ways to win. But all four NBA Finals games have been dramatic already.
Game 5 should be no different. And if it goes the Knicks' way, it's a night that New York will remember forever.
