The start of free agency has been nothing short of riveting, as several franchises have made compelling signings that could alter their respective trajectories.
Although a 23-year-old Golden State Warriors NBA champion reject isn’t among the free agents who have inked short-term and long-term deals, he’s receiving heavy interest from four notable organizations.
Those organizations include the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Atlanta Hawks
“The Lakers obviously face financial constraints, but league sources say they continue to explore the feasibility of adding Jonathan Kuminga to fill a wing need,” the Stein Line’s Marc Stein reported Thursday.
“Cleveland and Milwaukee have also expressed Kuminga interest, and a return to Atlanta has not been ruled out.”
Kuminga has had a rough go of it in the big leagues thus far. While he’s exhibited signs of a future star at times, his below-average perimeter shooting and questionable decision-making explain why the Warriors moved on from him after less than five seasons, and the Hawks declined his $24.3 million player option for the 2026-27 season.
Although the Lakers are the most notable team pursuing the former lottery pick, the Cavaliers would undoubtedly be an intriguing landing spot. While Kuminga wouldn’t crack Cleveland’s starting lineup, it appears that he could receive a legitimate opportunity to be a valuable spark plug off the bench for the 2026 Eastern Conference participants.
Eventually, Kuminga will have to develop a dependable three-point jumper if he ever wants to reach his full potential. Right now, though, the 6-foot-7 forward should continue to impact games as an explosive vertical athlete who's effective while traveling downhill.
