The Detroit Lions had to make a tough decision recently.
After Terrion Arnold's recent arrest and subsequent legal issues, the Lions opted to cut the young cornerback. Even before the issues, Arnold was seemingly on thin ice after a less-than-impressive start to his NFL career.
Regardless, the Lions were planning on having Arnold around and possibly taking a step forward in 2026. Without him, the room is a little thin, and the team could look to add an experienced veteran. Luckily, there could be a perfect option on the market.
Lions could sign Trevon Diggs
Moe Moton of Bleacher Report recently identified the best remaining free agents and also picked out a couple of realistic landing spots.
For cornerback Trevon Diggs, Moton thinks the Lions make a ton of sense. Regarding this possible match, Moton offered the following:
Just two years ago, Trevon Diggs would've been a big-ticket free agent. He has two Pro Bowl seasons and one All-Pro campaign on his resume. In 2023, the Dallas Cowboys signed him to a five-year, $97 million extension.
Once a ball hawk in the Cowboys' secondary, Diggs can rediscover his tip-top form if healthy ahead of the 2026 term. He finished the 2025 season without an interception, but if the six-year veteran makes it through training camp with another club, he could carve out a role in nickel and dime packages.
As Moton mentioned, just two years ago it would have been wild to think that Diggs would be a free agent late into the summer. The two-time Pro Bowler was once thought of as a top corner in the league.
Unfortunately, Diggs has been riddled with injuries in recent times. The corner only played in two games in 2023, 11 in 2024, and nine in 2025. Diggs was a late-season pick up by the Green Bay Packers in 2025, but they ended up cutting him at the end of the season.
Detroit could be a perfect landing spot for Diggs to get his career back on track. The Lions have a solid trio of D.J. Reed, Rock Ya-Sin, and Roger McCreary, so it's not like Diggs would be thrown to the wolves.
If Diggs could get even close to his peak again, he would be a massive steal for the Lions. The corner led the league with 11 interceptions back in 2021 and as recently as 2024, had a solid 11 pass breakups and two interceptions.
Diggs isn't elite anymore, but the Lions don't need him to be. The Lions just need another reliable veteran to bolster the depth, and Diggs can be that.
