Argentina's FIFA World Cup 2026 dream ended in silence on Sunday. Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in extra time. Messi and his team did not manage a single shot on target. Spain hit 11 shots on frame before substitute Ferran Torres scored the winning goal in the 106th minute.
The goal left Lionel Messi on the turf in what will likely be his final World Cup match. It was a bleak end to his international career. It was the coldest possible way to close out a career built on moments the sport never forgets.
But this final also produced soccer's warmest storyline. Nineteen years ago, a 20-year-old Messi wore the No. 19 shirt for Barcelona and posed for a UNICEF charity photoshoot with a six-month-old Lamine Yamal. Messi helped bathe the infant during the session at Camp Nou.
Yamal grew into a No. 19 himself for Spain, turned 19 during this tournament, and lifted the Golden trophy on July 19 -- the same number and age running through both ends of the story.
"That photo is crazy because, well, it's life," Messi said days before the final, per ESPN. "I had a photo with him when he was a baby and for us to be facing each other in the World Cup..."
Topps, popular for producing physical and digital trading cards, capitalized on this emotional viral moment. They are turning the photo into a unique 1-of-1 Stadium Club Chrome trading card. According to reports, only one physical copy will exist. It will debut in the Topps Stadium Club UCC collection later this year.

Before the final, the 39-year-old soccer legend praised Yamal, calling him an incredible player and a global star who has his whole career ahead of him. Yamal actually admitted that his family hid the childhood photo for years just to avoid the Messi comparisons.
That is what makes this Topps card so special compared to normal memorabilia. It literally captures the full history of Argentine and Spanish soccer right from that first baby photo to the World Cup final.
